Fifty community leaders gathered on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at United Ministries to discuss the immediate housing crisis caused by the condemnation of Economy Inn.
An Emergency Response Team is now coordinating ongoing support for Nicholtown Missionary Baptist Church, Urban League of the Upstate, and other community agencies who are lending vital aid to those now displaced. Resources will be coordinated by United Ministries and allocated through our community partners.
The Emergency Response Team is also working on permanent housing opportunities for the families recently displaced. If you are a landlord or property owner with available units please email GHACoordinator@United-Ministries.org for more information.
The group also established a Planned Response Team which includes the City of Greenville and Greenville County service providers to deal with similar situations in the future should they occur.

Below are additional details for GHA Stakeholders:
The Planned Response Team which includes the City of Greenville and Greenville County service providers has been formed to deal with similar situations in the future should they occur. This group will convene in conjunction with the Steering Committee of the Greenville Homeless Alliance. The meeting will be held at United Ministries at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 8. The team will address the long-term implications of the Economy Inn closing, and how public-private efforts can be marshaled to provide for housing on both the immediate, intermediate, and permanent bases.
An Emergency Response Team will focus on assisting Nicholtown Missionary Baptist Church (Pastor Darian Blue) and Urban League of the Upstate (Jil Littlejohn), and others who are offering vital assistance to those recently displaced. Volunteers are stepping up with funds and offers of time and talent to meet the immediate needs of these folks. United Ministries is serving as the fiscal agent for donations that might come in in support of these efforts. Already a couple of congregations and Bon Secours St. Francis Health System ($2500!) have made substantial pledges.
